On Saturday, May 6, Discover Los Angeles orchestrated one of the world’s largest human-powered welcome signs. Hundreds of Angelenos gathered to spell out “welcome” in four languages: Spanish, Chinese, English and Arabic. The eye-catching show of solidarity was seen from the air by visitors arriving on flights to LAX from across the globe.

Although I was born and raised in Medellin, everytime we travel to visit my parents I do intensive research about tours and things to do in Medellin. Sometimes when you leave on a place, you are not aware of all the "tourist" things are there to do. I never knew there was an exotic fruits tour, because well, those fruits were not exotic to me. I grew up eating all the fruits we tried during the tour. However my son had never tried them.
We have a rule at home. That is what my boy did durig this tour. He was open to try all the fruits and although he did not liked most of them, at least now he knows what they taste like, and who knows, in the future as his palate develops, once he tries them again, he might like them. There is also something very important to know about the exotic fruits. Some of them taste better while mixed with milk (or water) and some honey or even sugar and prepared like a juice. El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the dead) is a Mexican holiday where families get together to pray and to remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
Although I am not Mexican, I have learned to love this tradition and love celebrating it with my son. This year we have decided to decorate the house with sugar skulls, make an altar with food and also wear a mask to celebrate. This Colombian girl was super happy. I got to see Carlos Vives at the Hollywood Bowl. Time for Vallenatos and some Colombian songs. It was the day to dress up on Colombian clothes and have my Sombrero Vueltiao out. We even took the Colombian flag out.
