6 Ways to Distract Yourself from Reaching for Junk Food
You always try to focus on living a balanced and healthy lifestyle, but sometimes your sugar cravings and yearning for junk food likes to steer you off the wagon. Treating yourself to the occasional fast food item now and again won’t hamper your progress too much, but if you’re finding yourself sneaking one too many cookies in the evening you’re quickly going to feel lethargic and less healthy than you did before. It can be so hard to stay on track if you’re looking to live a healthier lifestyle overall, especially the evenings spent at home. With that being said, here are six ways you can distract yourself when you feel the temptation to reach for junk food.

Go for a Walk

Breathing in some fresh air and moving your body is one of the best ways to reset the rhythm of your internal flow and prevent you from reaching for a sweet treat. Whether you ask a friend to join you or take your dog out for a walk, there are so many benefits to getting some fresh air and taking a walk.

Play a Game Online

If online gaming is your thing, you may want to log onto your computer and try out something new. Flexing your mind muscles will help to take the focus off your stomach and onto the task at hand. You may want to look into online chess games to help you learn a new skill or you could try another classic board game online against other players.

Cook Something Nutritious

If you truly have a rumbling stomach, it may be a good idea to actually get in the kitchen and cook a delicious meal. This will not only help to level out your blood sugars but it will also help you to remember how satisfying wholesome foods are.  If you have a pet, you wouldn’t feed them junk all of the time, would you? No, you would be searching for the best dog food brands or other pet food brands that are full of nutrients. So, why would you not do this for yourself? Give yourself the same level of effort you give to your pet!

​Take a load off your feet, run yourself a hot both and soak away the long day you’ve just had. Spending an hour in the bath might just be the perfect form of self care for you so that you don’t get tempted to reach for chocolate or fast food at home.

Call a Friend

Now would be the perfect time to phone a friend and catch up with a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a long time. When you’re on the phone you will be distracted from indulging in the foods your body doesn’t really need.

Enjoy an Evening of Self-Care

You can enjoy a full evening of self-care and do something that truly makes you feel relaxed and happy. Instead of filling yourself to the brim with salty or sugary foods, you could paint your nails, enjoy an online yoga class or simply watch your favorite TV show.

Hopefully, these ideas will help to keep you occupied so that you aren’t tempted by the sweet treats in your home on a day to day basis. From taking a bath to cooking some nutritious meals, there are so many different things you can to do stay on track with your healthy choices.
