The Los Angeles Zoo is proud to present Wild for the Planet, a weekend event featuring exciting and educational programming aimed at promoting wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability. Happening April 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wild for the Planet offers a range of interactive activities, live entertainment, book readings, animal presentations, an Earth Expo, and inspiring presentations that highlight the importance of protecting our planet's diverse ecosystems and the species that call them home. All programming is free with paid daytime admission and for Zoo members. Guests of the Zoo can gain insight into global wildlife conservation efforts through engaging animal care presentations, showcasing the expertise of Zoo staff in areas such as animal biology, behavior, and nutrition happening at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days. Stroll the Earth Expo to connect with conservation and community organizations to discover how to defend natural resources and promote biodiversity within your community. Engage with education stations such as "Great Apes" and "Wildlife Corridors," which provide the opportunity for guests to learn about great apes, landscape fragmentation, and the Zoo's conservation efforts. Interactive activities such as the hands-on Planting for Pollinators and the Upcycling Inspiration Lab offer fun, no-waste activities for the whole family to enjoy. Additionally, there's a honey tasting hosted by the Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association (for an additional fee). On Saturday, enjoy I'm Getting a Shark! with author and illustrator Brady Smith as he presents a hilarious adventure about a girl who believes she's getting a pet shark for her birthday, leading to a surprising twist. On Sunday, don't miss Buffalo Fluffalo story readings with Emmy-nominated writer Bess Kalb. This laugh-out-loud tale is about a sweet and silly buffalo learning the importance of being true to oneself. Both days will feature live performances by environmentally conscious rap group 3rd Rock Hip Hop, along with meet-and-greets with Earth Mascots “3rd Rock” and his sister “Lil Rock.” Additional entertainment includes strolling bee and butterfly characters.
At the Zoo’s all-new Project Pollinator HQ, an area of the Zoo that has been reimagined to host educational programming about native plants, wildlife, and how to help them thrive through planting demonstrations and engaging talks. On Saturday, attend "Nature's Remedy: Native Plants for Wildlife and Wellness" with master gardener Stephen Reid from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Join Outdoor Afro leader T'Essence Minnitee from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday for a transformative lecture on the power of nature.
