The Ventura Music Festival is just around the corner! This year they have awesome news to all Ventura County residents. For the first time, the festival is providing a free for the community, full-production mainstage concert alongside the year’s stellar lineup: an evening with the one and only Jarabe Mexicano in the San Buenaventura Mission Park. JARABE MEXICANO has ties on both sides of the border. Founded in San Diego in 2015, this electrifying quintet combines stunning vocals, traditional mariachi instruments and percussion with a Spanish and English songbook that includes cumbias, sones, boleros, huapangos, reggae, DooWop and other American classics. Its Mexican-American members are bi-lingual, with extensive backgrounds in music education, and offer residencies, workshops and advanced Skype sessions for students and teachers. Jarabe means many things: syrup (as in liquid medicine) in Spanish; celebration in Arabic; a traditional couples dance; and mix of rhythms and instruments.
