This is not the first adaptation of the book that has made it to the screen. Back in 1993 I remember watching the film with my friends. This time around, the story is a little different and the visuals are magnificent. About the movieTHE SECRET GARDEN starring Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Dixie Egerickx is a new take on the beloved classic novel of the same name written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Set in England during a new time period in 1947, the film follows a young orphan girl who, after being sent to live with her uncle, discovers a magical garden on the grounds of his estate. Marc Munden is directing the script, which was adapted for the screen by Jack Thorne. David Heyman (Harry Potter franchise, Paddington 1, 2) and Rosie Alison (Paddington 1, 2) are producing and Jane Robertson (The Danish Girl, Bridget Jones’s Baby) is co-producing. Watch a trailerDid we like it?Yes we did. It was a more different from the book that the other 4 films. I haven't seen the Broadway play yet, so I cannot speak about that. However I can tell you that visually it was magnificent. I think those that read the book will find that the fact that they moved the time when the story was happening, does change a lot, however the backstory is similar. My son lost interest when we started the movie, but that is normal for a teenager boy with these type of stories. I however, did enjoy the story. I can see this as the movie you want to enjoy with your girlfriends. A virtual watch party with some adult drinks and some candy bars on a Friday night with this movie would be wonderful! Free activity sheetsHere are some FREE activity sheets for your family to enjoy while watching the film! Available on VOD August 7th, 2020.
