Trying to eat a little more healthy is a noble pursuit. Making sure you’re eating more whole foods, you’re taking in at least a few portions of vegetables per day, and that you’re drinking enough water is always going to be good for you! It helps you maintain your energy levels, ensures you’ve got the boost you need for a workout, and ultimately fills you up and helps your mood stay level. And if you want to make a few more healthy eating decisions in the near future, here are some ways to support your choices. Never skip breakfastIf you skip breakfast you’re already doing yourself a disservice. If you find you usually don’t have time for it in the morning, prepare it the night before and eat it as you go. Yes you might have to walk and crunch on your toast, but at least you’ve got something in your stomach! So don’t skip, try to make something small - even just an apple works - and boost your energy for the day ahead. See the dentistDon’t forget about your mouth in all this! Seeing a dentist on a regular basis can actually be pretty informative for your diet overall, as you can find out if you’re consuming too many processed foods. After all, the effects of such food can be right there in your tooth enamel! Foods high in sugar and acid are going to be the main offenders, but you don’t have to cut them out of your diet entirely. Just reduce the amount you eat them and replace them with some healthier alternatives, such as fresh fruit, which contains more wholesome sugar compounds. Meal prep for your dietIf you’re struggling to eat healthy throughout the weeks when you’re most busy, try to meal prep the Sunday before. Cook up three big meals or so and then separate them out into little portions, pop them in tupperware, and then put them in the fridge or freezer. Take them out as and when you need them and you’ll have a meal ready to go - as long as there’s a microwave nearby. It’s easy, it saves time, and ensures you don’t give up on your diet when it becomes a bit inconvenient. Be mindful at mealtimesDespite what we said about eating on the go earlier, try to be mindful about every other meal you have during the day. Lunch and dinner are great for this, and if you can sit down for breakfast, the more the better!
When you stay in the moment with your food, your body finds it easier to digest. Not only that, but you’re likely to eat slower, and that helps you feel more full. Taking your time when eating prevents indigestion from getting in the way, and gives your gut plenty of time to work through what you’re feeding it. If you want to eat healthy, this is how you go about it! Support yourself with small changes.
