I have always believed in the power of volunteering and doing good. There are several ways to help out others and while some people choose to donate money I think that donating your time is a great way to help those in need.
Reward Volunteers is a great resource that allows you to log the hours that you spend volunteering, and in turn, you earn rewards your hard work.
Reward Volunteers also provides information about volunteering opportunities in your area. Although there are not a lot of opportunities for kids under 16 years old available, call around to shelters and other non-profit organizations, you might just be able to find something where they can volunteer. One of our favorite activities to volunteer our time at is Beach Clean-up. They usually have the opportunities a few times a year and everyone is welcomed to help. Grab a broom, a trash bag and pick up trash and clean up sand. It is good for the environment and it is a great opportunity to get the whole family out and work as a team while helping out. We usually try to participate in the beach clean-up twice a year. Volunteering is a way to meet members of your community and make new friends as well.
Another volunteer opportunity we love is helping out at the local shelter. My son was able to help prepare vegetables and serve food the families in need. It was a wide opening experience for him. He was able to realize how many people are in need out there and gave him a new perspective on helping others. He also became more appreciative of what he has and thought him the value of money and saving for a better future.
It is important to teach your kids while they are still young so when they become adults they can continue helping those in need. It is also important to lead by example and show your kid all the volunteer opportunities you are part of. I choose the help as much as I can with local beaches clean-ups, reading to elders and hospices and even at the local animal shelter.
With Reward Volunteers when you log in your hours, you (or your organization) can win prizes.

What a great idea. My kids have volunteered at their school and church and have really enjoyed it. WE are hoping to do some more volunteering as we get closer to the holiday season as well. I think all kids need to do this.

This is such an important and great idea! Children need to know what it means to be included and help out! Giving back is so priceless and very much needed! Thanks for this :)

Wow this is a fun new way to encourage volunteering It seems like a great way to get kids involved since they enjoy electronics so much an app that keeps track would be perfect. I like the idea of teaching about giving back early on, this is great.

I think this is extremely good for them. Volunteering can really help them to move towards a positive direction, not just because they're doing work, but the people they're surrounded with in volunteer places can also be very positive. I'm not sure my son is old enough yet, but I will surely try to get him doing this as soon as he is.

This is something I was looking for, for my kids. I feel like they don't know what's out there and only think about themselves, their tablet, and their toys.

It's so important to teach children the importance of volunteering. My son loves helping others and seeing their face light up when they're helping others is so great! When you teach them while they're young they'll be more likely to continue to do so when they're adults.

Oh I just love this! I definitely think it's so important for kids to volunteer and especially so from a young age. It teaches them so much and gets them motivated for their teen years! SO important, love this and that you're sharing about this!

I love the idea of volunteering! I think it is so important to teach our kids the responsibility of helping other out without the expectation of receiving something in return.
