Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes out on Digital 2/26 and 4K, Blu-ray and DVD on 3/19Last week we attended the press day for the anticipated Digital and Blu-Ray release of Spider-Man Into The Spider-verse at Sony Animation lot in Los Angeles. It was a super fun day where we learned about how the movie came to life and we had some delicious food inspired by the movie. Thank you Sony for inviting us to the press event. For the press day we were divided into teams, to be able to get small groups during the presentation. I was team Gwen! VFX with Danny DimianWe started our day with Danny Dimian, VFX Supervisor of of Sony Pictures Imageworks. The team wanted Spider-Man to have the spirit of a comic book, and the research started with comic books. It was important to have a good understanding of the colors and drawings to keep the comic look in the movie. The design team also went to New York to gather inspiration from the streets and buildings. So much work trying to make the scenes look like a comic book but also a representation of what the real city looks like. So many details to take care of, like even the people in offices inside the buildings... Storyboarding with Denise KoyamaThen it was time to see the magic happening live. Denise Koyama was the Story Artist on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She was in charge of transforming the images of the characters into digital form. She told us that she actuallyy sketched the drawings on post-its and then, once she had the idea, she went to Adobe Photoshop to bring the magic into life. It was so cool seeing her draw. Character Animation with Joshua BeveridgeJoshua Beveridge was in charge of the look of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He needed to make the characters look real but still be able to perform in a graphic world. The animators started the development to the movie with the question, “Why does the world need another Spider-Man movie?” Then they created a Spider-Man film that told a new story, with a new point of view, something that hadn’t seen before with the previous Spider-Man movies. Spider-Ham shortWe screened the short Spider-Ham. By the way he is maybe my favorite Spider-Man, watch a clip... Q & A with screenwriters Chris Miller and directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney RothmanWe had Q&A with screenwriter Chris Miller and directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman. For almost 4 years they worked on the film and although they were not always on agreement, they were able to work the issues to give us the best on the film. I asked them who was going to take the Oscar home, and at the moment they were just happy that they had been nominated and have won other awards. I guess after last night they are really going to have to come out with a "custody" agreement, eh? The press day foodThe food for the press day was inspired by the movie and it was not only pretty but also delicious Congratulations to Sony and the production team! The movie won an Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature Film and a Golden Globe® for Best Animated Feature Film.SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, swings onto Digital February 26 and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD on March 19 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Sony Pictures Animation.
