Music: a great way to help my son practice his Spanish

From personal experience I know that learning a second language is hard. For me one of the best tools to learn new vocabulary and pronunciation was music. You have probably have noticed that you are able to recall that song from a few years ago, even though you have not listened to it for a while. Yes, our brain can remember songs. So it makes sense using music to learn and practice a new language.

One of the challenges with my son is helping him become bilingual. Since dad does not speak Spanish we tend to speak English with him. I speak Spanish to my son, and he is going to a bilingual school, but I know I have to help my son practice his Spanish.

I was lucky to get a copy of the music CD Hola, Hello from Mariana Iranzi. The CD is in Spanish and the music is very instrumental and the songs are a combination of new and classic songs. Some of the songs such as el Barquito de papel and Los pollitos bring back my childhood memories as well.

My son enjoyed listening to the CD. He sings along and without even noticing he is practicing his Spanish with the songs.
