McFarland USA out in theaters today 02/20/15About the movieBased on the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream. Watch the trailerDid we like it? We loved it. Not only the acting is great, even though this is some of the first acting jobs for some of the young guys, but the script is great. This is a movie that will inspire so many and it has very funny moments, but it has also touchy sentimental moments as well. My 10 year old loved it, he is so moved by the movie that we will be driving to McFarland soon. I loved the fact that the lifestyle of immigrants Latinos was shown as it is in real life. Finally a movie that shows Latinos different from stereotypes of gang members and violence. Finally a movie that shows that the color of your skin does not define how far can you go when you set your mind on your goals. Finally a movie that shows that Latino families stick together and are welcoming to newcomers in neighborhoods. Yes, this is a movie that we want to see win awards next year! Juntos a song from the sound track by colombian artist Juanes So you already know I am from Colombia and it is very exciting to see a Colombian artist have his song as part of the soundtrack for this movie. He also performed this song in Spanish during the Grammys 2015. So do not wait any longer. Now that you know this movie is great, take the family out and go see it today, or this weekend. Oh, and you have been warned, take the Kleenex with you, because you might shed some tears! out in theaters today!
