One of the best things I learned from my parents was to let the kids explore the world. My parents were really open to let my brother and I learn from trips, travels and education. They were always supportive of us taking classes, going on field trips or excursions and taking on new dreams or adventures.
I had a great childhood and I was able to accomplish a lot because how my parents raised me. I am passing that on to my son. We are a family of adventures and we make sure everyday activities allow for learning and personal growth.
One of the things we have been working on lately is to help our son be as independent as a 10 year old can be. This means for him to prepare his own breakfast, sometimes a sandwich and also to take care of his own snacks. We are also encouraging house chores such as picking up after himself and the dogs. We think this will teach him important lessons for adulthood.
By allowing independence you can teach your kids valuable lessons of responsibility and will allow them to become mature and help you around the house. They will be able to learn how to explore the world on their own and will be willing to take on new adventures as well.
