Special thanks to Kona Kai Resort for hosting me as their guest. All opinions, typos and grammatical errors are my own.
My friend and I decided to book a getaway to Shelter Island in San Diego for some relaxation and girl’s time. We decided to stay at the Kona Kai Resort and Spa.
Since the first moment that you walk into the lobby to check-in, you get to experience the contemporary Spanish style elegance. The hotel has a high-end boutique look. The lobby furniture and colors are inviting and near the registration area, they have the coolest wallpaper ever. It looks like a real library at first glance.
After we checked in, we went to our room. I really liked to tropical colors used for decorations. it made me feel like I was in paradise. The rooms are spacious and clean. We had an ocean room view with a balcony. The balcony is perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or to sip a cocktail in the afternoon.
The bathroom was big and I fell in love with the mango line of hair and body products they use. It is the small touches that make you feel really comfortable in a hotel.
After we unpacked and settle in, it was time to explore and have some fun. I was really impressed by all the amenities the hotel offers. They have a gym, bike rental and water sports rentals as well. They also have a Spa. I was not able to visit it, but I have heard great things about their services before.
The bike rental is free for the first hour if you are staying at the hotel. It was so much fun exploring Shelter Island on the bike. The views are amazing too.
I couldn't wait to head to the pool. I just love relaxing by the pool. They offer cabanas and have a Tiki Bar that serves the pool and private beach.
I learned their private beach is the only private beach in the state of California. You can just relax, play volley-ball or even paddle board. At night be prepared to sit by the fire pit and why not, buy one of their s'more kits to enjoy with the family.
If you are traveling with kids, or just want something different to do, enjoy some of the lawn games available

Looks like a fun but relaxing place to explore. We have been to San Francisco but haven't visited SD yet.
