This post is made possible with support from Wounded Warrior Project. All opinions are my own.
This year has been so different to what our normal is. We were used to be on the go and very active. Things have changed but our desire of promoting events that support great causes have not. This year we will be participating in the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Carry Forward 5K, delivered by CSX. The Carry Forward 5K is meant to put the symbolism of “carrying for” a wounded warrior, veteran, or active duty military member front and center. We have decided to do a virtual 5K
How do you honor veterans during the 5k
Warrior Project (WWP) Carry Forward 5K lets you participate in 3 symbolic ways:
• Carry a flag to show support and patriotism. • Carry a weight to represent the responsibilities veterans carry while serving our country. • Carry another person to symbolize one warrior carrying another in their time of need Who I am Carrying For?
I am doing the virtual 5k to honor my father in law and friends that have served in the military. When you hear the stories of how hard it was to be overseas fighting to keep our county free, there is nothing but love that comes into my mind. Some of them have PTSD and some are even injured. I am doing the 5K event by walking at my own pace and schedule. I wish I could had been training to actually run the 5k, but back in May I got sick and the recovery has been slow. As I walked while still being sick, I kept thinking how hard is for the women and men that serve in the military while they are in other countries, far from their families and sometimes under weather conditions that are very hard. I wish I could do more than just walk in their honor because of the hard work they do. But at least this year I am honoring while carrying the flag and showing them support.
You can register for the The WWP Carry Forward 5K
You can join me for a virtual 5k, at your pace. If you are going to get a group to join, remember to social distance from others. Help us honor and empower wounded warriors. Here is where you can register

I have participated in the Wounded Warrior Project through my DAR group. It was a bike/walk event on the Katy Trail.

This sounds like a really great cause! Good luck on your race. I'm out of my running game currently, but would love to slowly get back into it after baby arrives.

A virtual race is a great idea. I wish that I could participate but my back and hip won’t let me. :(
