Interview with Brian Fee (Director) and Kevin Reher (Producer) from Cars 3

It was an honor to be on the same room with such talented people. Kevin Reher (producer) has been with Pixar since 1993 and has been involved in films such as Finding Nemo, Cars 2, Brave, Inside Out to name a few.
Brian Fee (Director) has been with Pixar since 2003. Among his film you can count Cars, Ratatouille and Walle-E.

All about Cruz Ramirez

​Cruz Ramirez the character was a male initially. Really early on in the process of this film. Since the idea was constantly evolving they eventually realized that they were missing an opportunity here.
 
Not only they had a female character in a very heavy dominated sport but they also had a Latino character in an environment where there are not a lot of Latinos.
 
However that was not the main reason to have the story behind the character. They wanted everyone to feel like they can identify with Cruz Ramirez.  So Rather it's through gender.  Rather it's through race.  there's a million reasons why probably everybody at some point in their life, if not all the time, feels a little bit of an outsider and they knew at that moment they had the right story and character.
 
Even though the character is at NASCAR where the only female right now is Danica Patrick, they only met her briefly and she did not have any input about the character from her.

About the next project

They do not know yet. They are gonna take a little bit of a break, and go into development.  And start thinking about things. They have been trying to rest the brain.

Where they happy with the final product of Cars 3?

Yes, they were very pleased with the results, and they hope that the next one should be better than this one. They know they  can learn from the experience and do better. They are just happy they are doing better as they get older.
