Five reasons to visit The Coffee Region in Colombia

As you probably already know I am from Colombia. I now live in the US, but always try to teach my son about Colombian culture and now that he is a little older, we decided to enjoy a vacation visiting different regions in the country. The vacation was everything I had hoped. We were able to enjoy fantastic food, the Colombian hospitality, the Colombians charm and learn about the farmers and the importance of the Coffee Region for the rest of the county. Sadly, it was a short trip and there is so much more to explore, so for sure we will be visiting again in the future.

I wanted to share with you the top 5 reasons why you should visit the coffee region next time you travel to Colombia...

1. Coffee

The Region name is Coffee region for a very specific time. Although you can find other places in the country where they grow coffee, this region is the place where you will find the most amazing and delicious coffee of the world.

Colombian coffee has a mellow acidity and is medium bodied compared with other coffees. Colombia in known worldwide for its coffee and while you are in the coffee region you get to try the coffee but also you can visit coffee farms, you can learn about coffee history and also try all kind of products made with coffee.

2. You can meet and interact with animals

Both kids and adults with enjoy this part of the trip. There are plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with animals. The list of animals is huge, however some of the most popular, and easy to meet are chicken, pigs, rabbits, horses and cows. 

Depending of where you are at, you might be able to milk the cows and even ride a bull. There are also Llamas, goats and other type of animals that are always a hit with little ones.

3. The weather 

Most days are sunny and nice. Even when it rains, the temperature is always comfortable and the rain stops giving you plenty of time to enjoy the activities available in the area. 
You can pack just a light weight jacket and either comfortable jeans and t-shirts. Since there are a lot of water activities you want to make sure you pack your swimming suit. You will be able to get a tan too. 

4. Amusement Parks

One of the best thing about the hotels is that they are rustic. You will still enjoy some T.V and internet, however I assure you most of your day will be spending time out. Either on a horse-back riding excursion or even better enjoying some of the amusement parks in the area.

The hotel concierge can present to you all the activities available, but you want to make sure you visit some favorites such as Panaca and Parque Del Cafe. The parks offer shows, live entertainment, extreme activities such as zip-lining and also roller coasters. There is a little bit for everyone, so even if you are traveling with little kids or older adults they still can enjoy the parks.

5. The food

If you like tropical fruits, and Colombian food, for sure you will be able to enjoy the food you can get either on the restaurants and even the hotels. Some hotels that offer all inclusive plans, serve a mix of traditional dishes and internationals flavors so you can try a little bit of the local food but you still can eat the foods you are used to. 

There are plenty of reasons to visit The Coffee area. It is a trip you want to take with your family to enjoy some quality family time and also connect with nature.
