Eddie the Eagle out in theaters today! 02/26/16
It is so refreshing being able to watch a movie that motivates you to be a better human being. It has been a long time, maybe since the movie Cool Runnings in 1993 that I enjoyed watching a "sport" movie so much. My son also enjoyed it, although I have to warn parents with small children that the movie has some strong language, so maybe it is not what you want little ones watching.
About the movieCut from the Olympic ski team, British athlete Michael "Eddie" Edwards travels to Germany to test his skills at ski jumping. Fate leads him to Bronson Peary, a former ski jumper who now works as a snowplow driver. Impressed by Edwards' spirit and determination, Peary agrees to train the young underdog. Despite an entire nation counting him out, Eddie's never-say-die attitude takes him all the way to a historic and improbable showing at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta. Did we like it?
Yes we did. It is hard not to like a movie where the underdog achieves his goals. I was pretty impressed with Hugh Jackman's acting. After seeing him all this time in action movies such as Wolverine it is pretty cool to see him play a very serious role. he was funny and believable. Taron Egerton transformation for the movie is amazing. At the beginning I kept waiting for him to appear until I realized it was him. Great job there as well. It is a story of the real life so there is not too much to say about the storyline other than I was still glued to my seat to see what happened although I already knew the ending. That makes it for a good movie there.
If you have older kids this can be a great movie to motivate them to always keep going and never give up. The underdog is able to achieve its dreams because of hard work and dedication and that is a lesson we all want our kids to learn.
