This post is a collaboration with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. However all opinions, typos and grammatical errors are my own. THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE out on DVD & Blu-Ray on December 19thWe saw it at the movies and now just in time for winter break we have it at home. I do not know if you follow the news, but we had a big fire in Ventura County and the air quality has been bad. Unless we need to be out for appointments we might be staying a big part of the winter break inside the house. So having movies to watch and get my son entertained is going to be very important.

Decoration was really simple. I got a plastic red table cover, chopsticks, and oriental items to decorate the table and walls. Find some cheap items at the dollar store and you do no have to spend a lof on decorations for the party! So once the invitations were delivered it was time to think about the food. We were going to have two parties. One was at the Taekwondo place and another one at the house, but I wanted the food to be similar. At least the treat for the kids. Pretzel nunchucksPretzel Rods covered in chocolate and joined together like nunchucks by decorating candy strings. For the second party I got sick, so instead of the nunchucks I just made pretzel rods dipped in chocolate Ninjago oreo cookies dipped in chocolateMy son likes the golden oreo cookies, so we used those. Dipped in the colors of the ninjagos. For the eyes I used fondant. Fortune cookiesI found at the 99 cents store boxes of fortune cookies. I dipped them in chocolate Peanut butter and jelly sushiCut the crust from the bread. Roll the bread until flat. Spread the peanut butter and jelly. Roll and cut like sushi rolls Ninjago cake popsCake pops are easy to made in the cake pop maker. Then dip in chocolate and decorate My son loves Legos, but I guess that is common among kids his age. Last year we had a Lego Hero Factory birthday party and for this year he wanted a Lego Ninjago party. I work full time so I knew I had to look online for ideas, and things that were easy to make. I found this awesome site for an idea for the invitation. The site is so great that it evens provides with the links to download the font for the invitation. That was pretty cool and convenient. Now, the assembly for the invitations took some time. You will need parchment paper, super glue, rod sticks, paint, beads and ribbon. Now, I am glad I found the design already made, because making the scrolls is very time consuming. First I painted the rods with Stain. Once they were dry, I glued the beads on the top of the rods. Printed the invitation in Parchment paper, rolled in the form of a scroll and tied up with ribbon. Please note that you either need hand deliver the invitations or get a special tube to send them by mail. But the end result is very nice and everyone loved the invitations. Next post will be about the snack foods for the party, so do not miss it.
This is the continuation of a series of post about a LEGO theme party. Part One was about the invitation, part two was about the goodie bags and today we will be talking about games and the food for the party.
We had the party at a local children museum so I planned activities and games that were short and easy, so the kids could go and explore the museum. As the guests arrived, they were asked to write down their guess as to the number of LEGO bricks in the storage container. Then we invited the kids to go explore the museum and free play. After a while I had another game. I gave each child some Lego bricks and a straw. I then set up a timer and asked them to pick up the bricks using the straw, suctioning with their mouth. The winner was the one that was able to move more bricks into a plate during the two minutes. The kids had a lot of fun with that game. We had also Lego building contest, and free play with the Legos. As for the food, I had pizza, veggies, and snacks for the kids. I also had chicken salad and tostadas for the adults. I had chips on the Lego container I made, and some nuts and dried fruit. I also made Lego shaped chocolates for the party. (Some of the pictures for the food and games got deleted from the phone, so I cannot post those... sorry) For the cake I had the Hero Factory Cake made on edible ink, with my son’s name and I also had some cookies with his name, printed on edible paper with edible ink. The party was a success and now I had set up the tone for next year, so wish me luck. |
