A few years ago I visited Puebla, Mexico. I was then introduced to real and authentic Mexican food, and you have to believe me when I tell you it is nothing like the food that you find at most Mexican restaurants here in the US.
We started our meal with one delicious cocktail. Coconut raspado with mezcal. Just imagine a shaved ice with alcohol on it but 10 times better. I was already in love with the restaurant, but if the good drinks and food was not enough, you will have to wait until you experience their costumer service. Everyone was wearing a beautiful smile and even one of the chefs came to say hello and make some recommendations on the menu.
While you wait for your meal they bring you this bowl with warm fresh made corn chips with re-fried beans and cheese. We ordered our meal and we enjoyed some very traditional Mexican music on the background. I ordered the Tablita Meat Combination and all I can say is that it was perfection. The meat and chorizo were awesome but the cheese wrapped with nopal stole my heart.
There are so many great choices in their menu and that makes hard to choose what to order but I am sure my son is going to enjoy all the seafood dishes.
Although not on the menu, you probably can get to try crickets. They are actually really good and taste better with some mezcal. The combination of the garlic flavor and crunchiness made it a delicatessen that I will for sure order again.
When it was time for dessert the Tres Quesos Flan did not disappoint. It reminded me of my grandmothers lechera and cream cheese flan back in Colombia.
