New Year, new resoltutions, well maybe the same resolutions, but this time we mean it. It is time to be healthy on 2017. This time for real. Easy lifestyle changes that will help you achieve your goals and start 2017 with the right foot (even if you are a lefty). 1. ExerciseEven a slow pace 30 minute walk is better than no walk at all. Just grab your sneakers and go out for a walk. or join the gym, or take exercise classes or ride your bike. The point is being active any way you can. My plan is to walk the dogs and walk whenever I can instead of using the car. I plan on taking the stairs instead of the elevator, jump rope and bike on the weekends. Every single step counts! 2. Reduce stressI have tried meditation to relax and reduce stress. You might not be able to avoid the stressful situations, you might be able to control how you react to those situations. Pick your battles. If something is not worth you getting upset, then let it go. Try breathing techniques, hot baths and even walking to reduce your stress. Remember that support groups and therapy are also available if you think you cannot handle the situation alone. 3. Drink more waterI even got a super cool water bottle that keeps my water cool all the time. Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. I like to drink water before my meals so I feel full faster and eat less. I gave up soda long time ago, so I do drink more water now. I also drink sparkling water with fruits or fruits infused water to increase my daily goal of water intake. 4. Eat HealthierIt is not about following a diet, it is about eating everything on moderation. Portion control and eat better foods for you. Try fruits and veggies. Try new foods prepared in different ways. We have replaced pasta for zuchinni and spaguetti squash. We try to have baked foods intead fo fried foods. It is all about making better choices. 5. Have a healthy breakfastThis one is super important. Start the day with a healthy breakfast. My grandma used to say do not skip breakfast. She was right. Breakfast is very important. Choose a combination of foods that gives you energy and keeps you full for the morning. I have a very easy recipe for you. That shake looks good. I love Honey Bunches of Oats cereal. I am really trying to work on #2. Already week 1 of the New Year has been stressful. Yoga class has my name all over it. On a side note, I say sneakers and my husband always teases me about it. (He says tennis shoes.) I'm totally going to show him your post and say, "SEE!?! SNEAKERS!" LOL

I heartily agree with all your points and will be doing my best to do it all (fingers crossed longer than the first few weeks of January) Im hoping that 2017 is a less stressful year as 2016 was a wild ride for so many. I love a smoothie or shake, but have never tried adding breakfast cereal so now I need to go try something new.

I think we are all of the same mind in the New Year. So many of these ways I am aligned with you. Getting more exercise to me is easier than drinking more water. Somehow just walking an extra 30 minutes is a piece of cake but water drinking water I just cant seem to even drink 2-3 glasses a day let alone 8. Good luck with your plan in 2017.

I've never actually thought of making a cereal shake! that's pretty interesting...and it would definitely be filling because of the carbs!

Great post! 2017 is the year that I also want to be more consistent with my healthy habits. True enough, I do believe exercising and eating well and good go hand in hand. One can't be without the other!
