The 4 Foundations of a Healthy Life

Living a healthy life does more than allow you to live longer; it also improves your overall quality of life, too. After all, it’s much easier to have the energy required to live life to the fullest — and to simply be happier — when your health is in tip-top condition.

It would be nice, of course, if our health looked after itself. The reality is that while your body has the capacity to be at its best, you’ll need to give it the help and support it needs to thrive. 

Happily, that’s not an overly complicated task. In this post, we’ll run through the key foundations of living a healthy life — take them all on board, and your health will be better than ever, for longer than ever. 

Healthy Eating
Many of us eat with our taste buds in mind, but we should really be eating with our bodies in mind. Following a balanced diet is essential for giving your body the platform it needs to thrive. After all, there’s a big difference between eating fast-food meals and eating meals packed with all the good stuff.

Regular Checkups
Even the healthiest people have health issues from time to time. It’s not the presence of health issues that’s the problem; it’s failing to act on health concerns that’s the issue. It’s much easier to manage a condition when it’s minor than it is to treat it when it’s major. Scheduling regular checkups can give you a good overview of your health and identify any potential issues early on. Check your urology system by making an appointment with Arkansas Urology, check your cholesterol levels are within the acceptable range, and get screened for any cancers you may be at risk for. It’s unlikely that you’ll find that anything’s wrong, but it’s always best to know. 

Movement
After a long day of work, our natural impulse is often to sit on the couch and relax our body. But actually, if you work in front of a computer, then it’s not your body that’s tired, but your mind. Your body hasn’t actually done all that much, especially if you drive to and from the office. Exercise is essential for keeping your insides working exactly as they should be. Happily, exercise doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym. It can be a run or cycle around your neighborhood, or even a brisk walk. So long as you’re a little out of breath by the time you finish, it’s all good. 

Plenty of Rest
Finally, remember that while movement is important, rest is, too. And by rest, we mean really resting. Scrolling through your phone on the couch doesn’t count. Truly resting means taking time to relax your mind and body, and making sure that you’re getting 6 - 8 hours of sleep each night. Do that, and you’ll go a long way toward keeping your body at its best.
