Overcoming Your Fitness Barriers To Get Moving

Everyone knows that exercise is good for their health. But exercise isn’t something that just happens - you must put the effort in. Which usually means finding excuses why you can’t or don’t want to do it. If you’re serious about getting healthy, then exercise should be part of the package, so it’s time to ditch the excuses and get yourself moving! Here are some solutions for overcoming common fitness barriers to help you become more active and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

​“I don’t have the time”

A popular reason why people avoid exercise is claiming they don’t have the time. But all it takes is 30 minutes of activity a day to help you become more active and start noticing a difference in your fitness. You could start running or go to a class - anything to help you get some daily activity completed. Even if you don’t think you have time to exercise, there are ways you can move more throughout the day, such as walking or taking the stairs, to help you introduce some gentle activity into your routine.

“Exercise is too expensive”

Many people associate exercise with going to a gym or hiring a personal trainer, but the truth is, there are many ways you can exercise - and many of them are free. From YouTube workouts to Park Run, you can find different ways to work out without paying a penny.  ​

"My condition stops me from exercising"

While it’s true that some health conditions can affect your ability to exercise, there could be a way to make it work. Consult your doctor to discuss your condition and how you can exercise safely. They may even be able to provide treatment that can help you overcome your condition to get you moving again. Leg ulcer treatments can soon get you moving again, and if you’re suffering from back pain and other conditions, some physiotherapy could be beneficial to help restore your mobility. Exercise can help with a number of health issues, including mental health conditions, but always talk to your doctor first if you’re unsure of the best types of exercise for you.

​“I don’t enjoy exercise”

Exercise is a broad term, so when someone says, “I don’t like exercise,” it’s very unlikely they’ve tried everything that’s out there. Exercise comes in different forms, so if there’s something you don’t like, like running, you could try something else instead to help you find an activity you enjoy. From pilates to boxing and riding a bike, there are many options out there to try. Why not exercise with a partner or friend to help give you a little extra motivation and make it a more social activity?

As you can see, there are many excuses you could use to avoid exercise. And most of them are just that - excuses. If you’re going to turn things around to become more active, then it’s important to try. Stop finding reasons not to exercise and start embracing it to boost your health and help you reach your fitness goals.
