Spending quality time with my son is pretty important. I work outside the home, so being able to cherish moments while we are at home is very valuable for our family. From enjoying a nice dinner to learning and playing together I always make sure I create memories that will enrich my son's future.

Working together on crafts and projects bring us together and allow me to talk to him and learn about what is happening in school and encourage him to do give his best effort at everything he does.
We heard about a great contest for California families and since my son would like to attend college, he motivated me to create a craft using a milk container to enter the contest and maybe win $2000 dollars to start his college fund.
If you ever visit my house you will find always milk on the refrigerator. We use milk not only for cereal in the morning but also for cooking and off course to enjoy the occasional sweet treats. I have always loved milk and I glad my son is also a milk drinker. Finding and empty milk container for the contest was not difficult at our home. The hardest part was to choose what to make. So many cool ideas, however since we are all about recycling and saving for either toys or future education, we decided that the best thing to make was a piggy bank.

  • Start by painting the black spots on the milk jug. My son decided that it was a cow piggy bank since it was made out of a milk gallon. Once you have the cow spots, paint the nose and the eyes.
  • Then cut out triangles of construction paper for the ears and glue the pink chenille on them. Glue the ears to the milk jug.
  • Cut some circles of construction paper to make the legs. Glue to the milk jug
  • With a box cutter cut the opening for the money. (It might require adult supervision)
  • Make sure all the parts are glued and start saving for college (ok and maybe for a toy too!)

To make a piggy bank you will need:
  1. Empty Milk Jug
  2. Black Marker
  3. Glue
  4. Box Cutter
  5. Black construction paper
  6. Pink pipe cleaners (chenille)
  7. Scissors
To our surprise it was easier that we though. We had all the materials available at home and the design was not difficult at all.

When it comes to gifting during the holidays we have so many choices, however we have to recognize that we have all received homemade gifts that have stolen our hearts. After all we know that it is the thought that counts and we know someone was actually thinking about us if they take the time to make something for us.

So many ideas for holidays homemade gifts. You know baking good are always good. Just bake those yummy cookies or cake, package them in beautiful holiday containers and you will be all set. You can also knit something if you are into knitting (not me) and you can
