I was born and raised in Medellin, but today I experienced the city on a way I had never done before; from the sky. I am love extreme adventures. I had been skydiving and bungee jumping before, but paragliding was a new experience. I am very happy I was able to share this experience with my son. We both loved it.

Although I was born and raised in Medellin, everytime we travel to visit my parents I do intensive research about tours and things to do in Medellin. Sometimes when you leave on a place, you are not aware of all the "tourist" things are there to do. I never knew there was an exotic fruits tour, because well, those fruits were not exotic to me. I grew up eating all the fruits we tried during the tour. However my son had never tried them.
We have a rule at home. That is what my boy did durig this tour. He was open to try all the fruits and although he did not liked most of them, at least now he knows what they taste like, and who knows, in the future as his palate develops, once he tries them again, he might like them. There is also something very important to know about the exotic fruits. Some of them taste better while mixed with milk (or water) and some honey or even sugar and prepared like a juice. Cartagena is a historical city full of heritage and colonial treasures. It is located on the Atlantic Coast of Colombia and it is a very friendly city. It has a very active nightlife and offers visitors a variety of activities. You will never be bored here. There are things to do every single day.
Cartagena is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Colombia. If you are a reader, you might know Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the Nobel Prize winner. He grew up in Cartagena. Just walking by the streets is a pleasure. The weather is warm and humid, but nothing that a cold beer cannot refresh. There is enough breeze to help you cool off as you walk by the city. The UNESCO named Cartagena a World Heritage site and it is a great place to travel with family or just as a romantic gateway. This Colombian girl was super happy. I got to see Carlos Vives at the Hollywood Bowl. Time for Vallenatos and some Colombian songs. It was the day to dress up on Colombian clothes and have my Sombrero Vueltiao out. We even took the Colombian flag out.
We planned our vacation to Colombia just in time for the Medellin Flower Festival (Feria de la Flores). It has been a while since I had been in the city for the celebrations and I wanted my son to see how beautiful the city looks at this time of the year.
While I was trying to plan the activities, I found out that there is so much going on that most people are aware of. So, I decided to take some of the tours that most people that lives in the city has probably never taken. Locals are missing out on so much, and I am glad I did some research and found out about El Dia del Silletero in Santa Elena. |
