I just got back from a trip to New York and I can say that there was nothing better than having a good book to read during a very long flight. I love to read however during plane rides I usually go for the gossip magazines because I try to get tired really easy. So I have to say I was surprised on how easy to read the book is. The book is a story about two kids, Mike and Amy and a wooden chest they find on the house they just moved in. The chest has some red shirts that give them magical powers. And with this story line the book as you read you get more involved with what is happening and it is really hard to put the book down. Now, the best part is that my son is a great reader. He is only 8 but he reads advanced books and he wanted to read it too. The book is so entertaining that my son did not want to put it down until he finished a couple of hours after. You can stay connected with the author here: Bryce Clark on Twitter Now the best part is that I have a giveaway for all of you. You can win not only a copy of the book but a $75.00 Amazon.com gift card. Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. I received a book for review and all opinions expressed are my own. I was able to be there thanks to wonderful sponsors that made it possible not only for my but for a group of Latina Bloggers to be part of a retreat. During the retreat we were part of a training that gave us information on how to take our blogs to the next level and how to be able to make social impact with our blogs. The information we got was not only on how to monetize our blogs but on how to grow our brand. Yes, my blog is my brand. It is my social media persona and I want everyone to be able to identify that name with me. The group of bloggers that attended the retreat was great. Bloggers from all areas: food, savings, education, fitness, lifestyle and more topics. We learned to create our business plan and to focus on growing our brand. And of course we also had fun and we got to see a little bit of NYC. I leave you here with some images: Getting a makeover from Suave, a tourist tour at the United Nations, on the subway on the way to Queens and with other bloggers at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Immigration has been and will be always been a very touchy topic. I guess that someone feelings and thoughts about immigration might depend on what side of the border you are from. On my case as an immigrant myself I think that something has to be done about the immigration reform. Now to what extend I agree with some of the things being proposed, might differ, but I do think that if I had to leave my son behind to an immigration law I would not be happy. I am in the US because I got married to an American Citizen. And even though I have a green card I still have and travel with my Colombian passport. I have not really experienced firsthand any issues with immigration; I think my personal story is more about discrimination. Let’s get real here; it just happened a few days ago. The comments online because Miss America has an Indian heritage were outrageous. Common people stop the non-sense. She was born here, race here so she is AMERICAN! When I travel and come back to the US my Colombian passport has been raised and I have been pulled from the line to be asked questions. Yes, I know a lot of drug dealers are from Colombia but not everyone in Colombia is a drug dealer. So just because of where I am from or how I look like does not mean I should be a suspect, does it? I understand safety and security and I am grateful for everyone at the airports that help to keep my family and other travelers safe. However I would be even happier if there is not racial profiling and nationality profiling. So whatever is your take (or mine) on immigration the responsibility is now to work on human rights and respect. Let’s concentrate on treating others as we would like to be treated. The color of your skin, the color of your passport should not dictate the way you are treated.
I am going to LATISM conference to be able to learn about immigration, social media, health issues and education that affect not only Latinos, but will also affect the future of the US, because let’s remember that like my son, there are a lot of Americans that are also Latinos, and we should be concerned about their future. Disclosure: I received complementary media tickets to visit the park, however all opinions expressed are my own. My son is a Lego fan. We have so many Lego toys that it is hard to keep them organized. As a Lego fan his dream has been going to Legoland. The dream has become a reality and now I want to share with you all the fun. Legoland is the perfect park to visit with small kids. My son who is 8, was able to ride all the rides, which is pretty cool, because in other parks he has height restrictions. The park has different sections that will keep kids (and parents) entertained. We started our journey at The Beginning and from there we visited Miniland, Imagination Zone, Pirate Shores, Land of Adventures, Castle Hill, Explore Village, Fun Town, Duplo Village and Dino Island. The park not only has very cool rides, but also has some very entertaining shows. Make sure to look at the daily schedule so you do not miss anything. As an advice, take a change of clothes. You will get soaked at Pirate Shores. The food is great and full of healthy options. Now I am going to leave you with some pictures that show you how much fun we had.
