We all know the saying, “your vibe attracts your tribe” and finding your people in life is actually more important than we think. Your “tribe” is your community: family, friends, and even professional connections who are there to support us and help us grow. Having a strong community is important for both your mental and physical health, which you can learn more about here. For now, let’s take a look at a few compelling reasons to find your people in life and hold on tightly to them! Emotional Support One of the first and most obvious reasons to find your tribe is for the emotional support. We as humans are social creatures and were never designed to be alone, especially during tough times! Having people to lean on when you’re facing illness, job loss, grief, and any other major life events is so important to help you keep it together, feel supported, and move through your emotions. Even when it comes to the tiny irritations in life, like a broken washing machine, we all need someone who will understand our frustrations and let us vent. Shared Knowledge and Resources At some point or another, we’re all going to need knowledge, help, or advice that Google simply can’t provide for us. Having people close to you who have varied knowledge, experiences, and perspectives can be a wonderful resource for daily life. We’ll all benefit from a foodie friend to ask for help with recipes, a happily married friend for relationship advice, or a home-making friend to help us learn to stitch the hole in our T-shirt. Leaning on colleagues for assistance in the workplace or your mom for a different perspective on an argument with a friend – other people’s knowledge can be so helpful and make us feel less alone. Accountability and Motivation When the people in your life truly, deeply care for you, they’re going to help you achieve the goals you set for yourself. Having the accountability and support to do so can be monumental in achieving what you set out to do. Whether you have a gym partner that forces you to get up early in the mornings to exercise, a spouse who helps you make nutritious meal choices, or a friend who checks in every week to find out if you’ve been working on your business idea, having others in your life who care about your goals can be extremely motivating. Enhanced Well-Being and Happiness As we’ve already said, humans are made to be with others! Beyond all the deep and emotional support that your tribe can bring you, don’t forget that the people in your life are also there to have fun with.
Aside from emotional support and being cared for, your tribe is a group of people (or even just one individual) who makes you laugh, feel relaxed, and simply let go. You need to be able to share your life (the ups and the downs) with someone, even in just a light-hearted way. Having a person to send a picture of your new outfit to makes the purchase all the more exciting.
