As much as I would like to be active, there is couple (sometimes more) days a month that I am in discomfort and swollen and I really do not even want to get up of bed. These symptoms are all menstrual-related breast discomfort. I want to share with you what I do to try to stay healthy even during those days of the month.
What has worked for me is
- Stay hydrated. Although they symptoms are caused by fluid retention due to the hormones during your period, if you drink a lot of water your kidneys will work to eliminate the water you are drinking and that will help reduce the swelling.
- Keep active: yes I know you want to stay under the blankets and you do not want to move a muscle, however being active will help pump your metabolism and blood and will help reduce the cramping
- Cold compresses, they might not feel great at first but they help reduce the soreness and also will help with the swelling.
- Eating healthy: normally everyday, but during that time of the month I really try to avoid complex carbohydrates, fats and heavy foods that will increase the swelling.
