Last weekend was full of fun. First day of Spring Break for my son and we had the opportunity to visit
Knotts Berry Farm and see all the cool things prepared for celebration of Spring.
Going to
Knotts is always fun, but this time around we had the opportunity to enjoy not only the rides but all the different activities that the new #KnottsSpring celebration has planned.
From March 23rd through April 7th, the entire park will be “spring-i-fied” in a big way with activities such as
1. Search For The Easter Beagle: find the Beagle, and then redeem the card for an egg that can have different prizes 2. A musical interactive Peanuts Party in the Park
3. Boardwalk Board Games
4. Cupcakes decorating
5. Lucy's Show
6. Wine, Beer and food tasting
7. And of course the encounters with the famous characters
Disclosure: I received a complementary pass to visit the park with my family but all opinions are my own.
Easter is that time of the year again. Kids are looking forward not only to decorate the Easter eggs, but also to participate in the fun activities that take place all over the country.
The Easter Egg hunt is a very fun activity that keep kids entertained. In previous years the eggs were filled with candy and sweets. But as the rates of childhood obesity and other diseases associated with obesity increases, there are more parents, teachers and educators that want to provide different options instead of the candy.
Here are some ideas of things you can use to fill up the eggs instead of candy.
- Erasers
- Character Band-Aids
- Socks
- Stickers
- Temporary tattoos
- Mini Bubbles
- Bouncy Balls
Other things you can use for your Easter Baskets are
- Play-doh
- Crayons
- Chalk
- Pencils
- Coloring books
Yes, they might still get some candy, but at least there is plenty of healthy options available.
What are you going to be putting on your kids baskets this year?
Decoration was really simple. I got a plastic red table cover, chopsticks, and oriental items to decorate the table and walls.
Find some cheap items at the dollar store and you do no have to spend a lof on decorations for the party!
Wreck-it Ralph is now available on DVD/Blu-Ray/Blu-Ray 3D Combo and what a better way to celebrate that with a little craft?
Well, I told my son that I wanted to create a little board to share the love for Wreck-it Ralph. I wanted to make a poster using food. My first thought was using colored pasta, but my son had a better idea. Using candy (In honor to Sugar Rush) to create our board.
So, we just went ahead and got red candy to create our poster using the new DVD/Blu-Ray/Blu-Ray 3D Combo as our image and some Lego bricks to represent the building where the characters live.
It was a very easy and fun activity to make. Now the hard part is not to eat all that candy while enjoying the awesome movie.
The Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D™, DVD, SD Digital and On-Demand Debuts March 5, 2013.
Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I was provided with a free copy of the movie to facilitate the review. All opinions are my own.
The things that I probably remember the most from my childhood years are the ones that had to be with my parents spending quality time with my brother and I, and also the babysitters and teacher we had. Those types of memories will be always with me, and somehow dictate the way I raise my son.
So when I heard about the program
Ready. Set. Grow! I knew I wanted to learn more and be able to tell more parents about it. The Program
Ready. Set. Grow! Has a main objective of provide resources for the children development.
Plenty of studies have shown that 90% of the brain is developed during the first 5 years of life. That is why the emphasis of education should be given to this age. When kids start learning soon they will have better academic outcomes in life.
When my son was born people used to make fun of me because I was reading and teaching him things even when he was only a newborn. Now we can see the results on his report cards. Science cannot be wrong. Children that have good stimulation and learning experiences will develop better skills than kids that do not have such stimulation.
What I had learn during my years as a parent and while doing my Masters in education is that quality time is more important that the quantity. I have always worked outside the home and my son has been at daycare or school. However I always find fun and safe ways to almost every activity with my son an educational experience that he will benefit from later on.
Even a simple trip to the grocery store can be fun for kids if we let them help do the shopping by creating a shopping list that is kids friendly and will help them learn letter, colors and fruits names, for example.
Now finding childcare that you can trust is not always easy. But thanks to the campaign
Ready. Set. Grow!, now parents can access the resources to find certified childcare centers and also provide resources and ideas on how you can still be part of your child education and growth. The program
Ready. Set. Grow! has a website with so many resources that I wish something like this would have been available when my son was little. So many times I was confused about how to find childcare and even about what games were appropriate for his age. But now all the information is just a click away.
If you want to know more about this great program or you are looking for parenting and education resources, please visit
Ready. Set Grow! This is part of a compensated campaign with Smith New Media and ReadySetGrowLA.org. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
So once the invitations were delivered it was time to think about the food. We were going to have two parties. One was at the Taekwondo place and another one at the house, but I wanted the food to be similar. At least the treat for the kids.
Pretzel nunchucks
Pretzel Rods covered in chocolate and joined together like nunchucks by decorating candy strings.
For the second party I got sick, so instead of the nunchucks I just made pretzel rods dipped in chocolate
Ninjago oreo cookies dipped in chocolate
My son likes the golden oreo cookies, so we used those. Dipped in the colors of the ninjagos. For the eyes I used fondant.
Fortune cookies
I found at the 99 cents store boxes of fortune cookies. I dipped them in chocolate
Peanut butter and jelly sushi
Cut the crust from the bread. Roll the bread until flat. Spread the peanut butter and jelly. Roll and cut like sushi rolls
Ninjago cake pops
Cake pops are easy to made in the cake pop maker. Then dip in chocolate and decorate
